Nyko Intercooler for PS3

Inspired by the overheating trauma of the early Xbox models, manufacturers came up with a solution entitled ‘intercooling’ to prevent these same events in consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Wii.  The Nyko Intercooler for PS3 is one of the more popular options on the market...

Installation and Benefits

The PS3 can get hot, even with the built-in fan system.  There is potential for skipping discs and interruption of gaming play if the console is run too long.  Even with its warning system, the PS3 can benefit from the easy to install Nyco Intercooler.  It needs no AC supply, instead using a ‘power pass through’ to an outlet.  To install, the rear end of the unit clips onto the back of the console, and a top piece is snapped into place after it.

The designers of the Nyko made a snug-fitting product which leaves A/V ports accessible after the unit is attached.  An on-off switch is situated on top of the cooling unit, and the addition of five powerful fans are applied to the PS3 console.  The drawback of all this cooling power is the noise of the unit, which can be heard from a few feet away.  Generally, it will not be noticed during movies and games, so long as the volume is sufficiently increased.

The small price of the Nyco Intercooler, around $30 dollars, is reasonable; and if it prevents the  Playstation 3 from overheating, it will have paid for itself in one session.
